Getting started

Set the entity scope and review dates early.

Public corporations can earn SR&ED credits, and eligible Canadian public corporations can access enhanced refundable credits. We assess the rules for your company and claim year with your tax advisors before calculating the claim.

We manage preparation across development teams, finance, and group entities. That includes assessing the projects, writing the technical reports, reconciling expenditures, and preparing the federal and provincial schedules.

Your senior preparer is directly accessible throughout the work. We plan around internal approvals and your corporate filing timetable, explain the claim to reviewers, and manage revisions before the package reaches your tax preparer.

Working together

Senior ownership across the claim

We lead the technical and financial preparation, coordinate the reviews, and stay with the claim through audit.

What Cedar handles

Strategy and technical reports

We assess the development, define the SR&ED projects, conduct interviews, and write the technical reports from the work and supporting records.

Financial reconciliation and schedules

We reconcile costs and allocations, address assistance and entity questions, calculate the credits, and prepare the federal and provincial schedules.

Review, filing coordination, and audit

We explain claim positions to your reviewers, complete revisions, and coordinate the approved schedules with your tax preparer. Full audit support covers technical and financial review responses and meetings.

Your team’s input

Technical contributors

The people who know the development take part in interviews, share the project records, and review the reports for accuracy.

Finance and tax knowledge

Finance provides the cost, funding, and entity information. Your tax advisors contribute the corporate and group details that affect the claim.

Internal approval

Your designated reviewers check and approve the completed claim. Your tax preparer integrates the schedules into the corporate return and files it.

Our success-based fees mean we share the risk and upside of your claim. Your senior preparer’s compensation is tied to the outcome, and full audit support is included.

Questions

Before we begin

Can a public company claim SR&ED?
Yes. Public corporations can earn investment tax credits on qualified SR&ED expenditures. Cedar assesses the work and costs, then prepares the claim using the rules that apply to the corporation and claim year.
Can public companies receive refundable credits?
Eligible Canadian public corporations can access enhanced refundable credits for tax years beginning after December 15, 2024. Eligibility and the expenditure limit depend on the corporation and its group. We assess those conditions with your tax advisors.
Can Cedar work with our existing tax advisors?
Yes. We prepare the SR&ED reports, calculations, and schedules and work directly with your advisors on review and filing. Your company approves the claim, and your tax preparer integrates it into the corporate return. Cedar provides full support for any SR&ED audit.
