A useful formulation has to work through processing and in its intended application. Cedar follows the experiments behind those properties, writes the technical report and builds the financial claim from the people, samples and materials involved.
A formulation number alone rarely explains a development programme. The claim needs the relationship between composition, processing conditions and the behaviour being investigated. We work with your team to reconstruct that sequence from sample records and test results.
Related experiments may span mixing, curing, bonding and durability testing. We identify which comparisons belong to the same investigation and describe the knowledge developed across them, including results that ruled an approach out.
Illustrative examples
Development problems worth a closer look
These hypothetical examples show how a technical problem can lead to experimental work. We assess your project using its actual starting knowledge, investigation and records.
Adhesion, flexibility and durability together
Development challenge
A coating needs to adhere to a flexible substrate while retaining its performance after repeated environmental exposure. Available formulation knowledge does not establish how to achieve the required combination of properties.
Experimental work
Experiments vary binder, additive and preparation conditions, then compare adhesion and mechanical behaviour before and after exposure. The comparisons test how the formulation and substrate interact.
A workable curing window
Development challenge
A composite part must cure within a restricted temperature and cycle-time window. Available process knowledge cannot predict the temperature distribution and resulting properties throughout the part.
Experimental work
Instrumented samples and prototype parts compare cure conditions with internal temperatures, defects and measured properties. The findings guide changes to the process and the team’s understanding of its limits.
Claim strategy
Define the work and the costs.
We distinguish the formulation or process investigation from supplier qualification, standard material comparisons and routine batch testing. Testing and analysis that directly support the investigation are assessed with the experimental work.
Cedar reconciles the project costs with your financial records and documents the allocations used in the claim.
Sample identity is the link between the formula, the process and the result. Keep that identity consistent across notebooks, instrument files, photographs and material-use records.
Ingredient quantities, formulation versions and sample identifiers showing what was made.
Processing conditions
Mixing, forming or curing settings and the controlled changes made between samples.
Test results and analysis
Methods, raw measurements, failure images and conclusions linked to the relevant samples.
Resources and costs
Staff activity, material consumption, external testing invoices and the related accounting records.
Working with Cedar
A senior preparer leads your whole claim.
We handle the claim strategy, technical reports, financial reconciliation, tax schedules and filing coordination. Our fees are tied to the outcome of your claim, and full CRA audit and provincial review support is included.
1
Set the claim strategy
We speak with the people who did the work, review the development records and identify the projects and costs to assess.
2
Write and reconcile
We write the technical reports, reconcile expenditures to your accounts and prepare the federal and applicable provincial tax schedules. Your team provides the records and reviews the completed claim for approval.
3
Coordinate filing and handle reviews
We coordinate the claim filing with your accountant, who files the corporate T2 return. If the claim is reviewed, we prepare technical and financial responses, attend meetings and coordinate with your team and accountant.
Turn a year of development into a clear account of the technical problem, the experiments, and what your team learned.
